Off-duty Cop Catches Crook Before Taking Baby Home

The recent father was just about ready to take his premature baby home after two weeks in the hospital when a robbery got in the way.

For off-duty Evergreen Park officer Chris LeCompte, last Monday was a scene straight out of the movies.

Prior to bringing his premature baby home after two weeks of care at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, LeCompte stymied a robbery in the hospital cafeteria, reports the Chicago Tribune.

"I was sitting down, eating, and there was a woman behind me who started to yell," 33-year-old LeCompte told the Chicago Tribune.

It was in reaction to 30-year-old Sean McBrady of Evanston, who snatched the 9 months pregnant woman's cell phone. LeCompte immediately responded to the situation and found the 6 foot 2 inch, 220 pound McBrady wrestling over the cell phone with the woman's husband on the ground.

Despite being completely unarmed, LeCompte jumped in and subdued McBrady, avoiding scratch and punch attempts in the process.

"It was an exciting day, but it didn't need to be that exciting," LeCompte told the Tribune.

Bail for McBrady was set at $150,000.
