ReplyIs it necessary to broadcast in this article that a business has no outside surveillance? Seems to me that's information that lends no value to the article and only gives criminals some intel.

ReplyI also hope they keep in this guy- just last night he was on the median at 159th and Harlem, by the left turning lane. I'd be a little more sympathetic if he didn't have a home and a family. He's refused offers if work despite his cardboard sign, smokes cigarettes (expensive these days!) and is most likely looking for drug money. His kind don't belong in Tinley.

Reply5 years is a slap on the wrist, given what this punk did. His family's reaction is telling, no accountability for one's actions. They helped form what their little darling has become.
And independent witnesses IDed Messina as well, so I don't buy the 'other guy did it" defense. -

ReplyI sure wish the media would stop referring to them as the "Tinley Park 5"-it implies that they are from here. Because this story went national, people may associate their kind of trash with Tinley, which is not fair nor accurate.
I wonder if the people supporting them are considering the damage they caused to an innocent, hardworking business like Ashford House, or the terror they inflicted on innocent bystanders out to have a nice meal. I bet if they or their loved ones were dining there that day, they would have a little different perspective. -

What about the second suspect in the New England break-in-are they working on leads? Is there a description? -

ReplyHis girlfriend is out there begging as well. I don't see them over by Meijer much anymore-I applaud whatever business put out the lettered sign that read, "Please don't give them money. They have been offered jobs and refuse to work." I hear they are heroin addicts. And the OP cops are apparently familiar with them; I saw a squad drive by one day and wave to him, and he waved back.

On the article Do You Still Feel Safe in Tinley Park? (Poll)

ReplyI wish the village and TPPD would be more forthcoming about what's happening in our village. Why has nothing come out about the break-ins during broad daylight
Thursday in the Tinley Terrace neighborhood?? And why did an email alert not go out in a timely manner Wednesday, as a police chopper had already been scouring my area for over an hour, and squad cars were swarming the area?
I've lived in TP since 1980. We used to have a neighborhood watch program, and a monthly newsletter would go out detailing the crime reported in each neighborhood. Then they stopped distributing the list, but you could pick one up from certain area businesses. Then they started posting the list online. And now it ceases to exist. For the first time in over 30 years I do not feel safe here.

The Tribune and Southtown articles state the suspect is about 6 feet tall; here it says 5'4". Those are very different descriptions.
