Roofers Visited Casual Male XL Day Before Roof Collapsed

Five years' of building inspection reports are fairly mundane--until the day before the roof collapsed on Jan. 19.

Village inspection reports obtained by a freedom of information request reveal that roofers were called to inspect the roof of Casual Male XL the day before it collapsed on Jan. 19. Evergreen Park Patch requested the building inspection reports dating back to 2008 for the commercial properties at 2637-2641 W. 95th St., including Casual Male LX and the Sherwin-Williams paint store. The building inspection reports are fairly mundane for most of the five-year period, citing housekeeping issues, malfunctioning emergency exit lights and improper encasement of fire extinguishers. In August of 2010, Sherwin-Williams was asked to keep its front doors unlocked during business…

Photos: Casual Male XL Leveled After Roof Collapse

The Casual Male store on 95th Street was torn down today after its roof collapsed last weekend

The Casual Male XL in Evergreen Park is no more.  The building located at 2627 W. 95th Street was leveled Wednesday morning a little over a week after its roof collapsed.  On Saturday, Jan. 19 around 1:26 p.m. emergency crews responded to the retailer after reports of a collapse. Authorities Trying to Determine Cause of Roof Collapse

Investigation of collapsed roof at Casual Male XL has been turned over to Evergreen Park building department, fire chief says.

  Authorities still don’t know what caused the roof to cave in at a men’s clothing store on Saturday afternoon. Sign up for the Evergreen Park Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. Evergreen Park Fire Chief Ron Kleinhaus said that a bowstring roof truss at the Casual Male XL store at 2627 W. 95th St. failed and took the roof down with it. What exactly caused the truss to weaken is under investigation. “It was probably fatigue but I’m not an engineer,” Kleinhaus said. “That may be a possible cause.” Firefighters rushed to the scene around 1:26 p.m. Saturday. Roof Collapses in Evergreen Park Business District

Roof caves in at Casual Male on 95th Street. Some structural damage reported to building.

  The roof of a men’s clothing store collapsed Saturday afternoon, sending the store’s lone employee scrambling to leave through the back entrance. There were no injuries. An Evergreen Park police officer said that the roof caved in at Casual Male, 3627 W. 95th St. at approximately 1:26 p.m. Collapsed shelving and debris was visible through the front windows inside the store. An employee at the adjacent Sherwin Williams paint store said she was working with a customer when she heard a loud boom. “It sounded like a semi driving through the brick,” Kim Korosa said. “I had a customer and told her to leave because my warehouse filled with smoke from the debris.
