It's been three weeks since Mary Acker Klingenberger started her new position as president of Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School. It's a homecoming of sorts for the 1975 grad who takes the reins of the school's business and outreach operations. Klingenberger was previously director of gift planning at Hinsdale Hospital and was a regional president Harris Bank of Hinsdale. She has an extensive background in both fund raising and management. Were you excited about returning to Mother McAuley? I love Mother McAuley and think it provided me with an opportunity to be fearless throughout my career. It has been a year since mourners lined South Side streets. A year since students stood outside Brother Rice High School holding American flags and bowing their heads. A year since Beverly neighbors crowded into St. John Fisher Church to pay their final respects. It has been a year since Marine Cpl. Conner Lowry, 24, died in Afghanistan. On a cold and snowy Chicago day, Lowry's memory was honored with the dedication of a street in his name and sculpture in his neighborhood park. Family, friends, neighbors and community members huddled together to pay tribute to a young man who made the ultimate sacrifice. The South Side Irish Parade season kicked off Friday night at a pre-parade fundraiser. The event at 115 Bourbon Street brought out about 1,200 attendees. Money raised goes toward the cost of hosting the parade. Patch was on hand capturing all the night's excitement. Read: Patch Photo Booth: South Side Irish Pre-Parade Party The big parade takes place Sunday, March 10 on Western Avenue. This is its second year back after a brief hiatus. The Chicago City Council recently passed an ordinance imposing harsher fines on drinking at parades. The committee has been stressing the family-friendly nature of the rebooted parade and this year will add a one mile race down Western before the parade steps off.
