The mayor defends the Evergreen Park Police Department from recent media reports.
Stung by recent claims that Evergreen Park Police traffic stops may be guided by racial profiling, Mayor James Sexton came out swinging at Monday night’s village board meeting. With the words “…and justice for all” still echoing in council chambers after the Pledge of Allegiance, Sexton immediately began counter-punching, defending his administration and accusing the downtown news media of being interested more in fantasy than fact. “I’m not going to let a couple of reporters tarnish the reputation of our police,” Sexton said, referring to a recent analysis of traffic-stop data conducted by the Better Government Association FOX 32 News. I grew up in evergreen park lived there for 17 years, had an African American family that lived on our corner, guess what they were very nice and had one of the best kept homes on the block. I've also been pulled over and ticketed numerous times and guess what I was speeding, had tinted windows, and loud exhaust...and I'm white. Mayor views election campaign as therapeutic

In a recent conversation with the Evergreen Park Patch, Sexton said his bid for a fourth term is helping him recover from the West Nile virus that struck him last summer. From being bedridden, to using a wheelchair and then a walker, Sexton is now walking unaided although slowly and deliberately. There is more physical therapy to be endured, “but I am way ahead of the curve,” he said about his recovery. “I think it’s good I’m running. I need the wherewithal. I need the challenge. For starters explain about all these other people who don't like the job the Mayor is doing and why. Explain why you don't like the Mayor. Explain yourself about TIF money. Explain yourself about all the other things you have thrown out their about the Mayor. You just throw out statements because you obviously don't like him personally.   more ›

At Monday's Village Board Meeting, Mayor James Sexton is expected to appoint heads of committees and commissions for the 2012-2013 session.
The Board of Trustees and Mayor James Sexton will hold the next village board meeting this evening. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. and will be in Council Chambers of Village Hall. See what's on the agenda before you go. On the Agenda: Members of the audience are invited to speak during the open public forum. The board says to limit comments to three minutes.

I voted but didn't vote. I use the electronic ballot and the touch screen was goofy as the bottom right portion didn't seem to be working so you couldn't advance on. I touched one of the write in boxes(a keypad appears so you can type in a name) so a judge could not see the few choices I had made. Well, she could not get anywhere either so reset the machine which meant I was done voting. That was…   more ›
