Tom Marfan, who was a quarterback in 1998 for Evergreen Park Community High School, the last time the team made it this far, dropped by the school and gave the team his well wishes. After a tumultuous few years in football, the Evergreen Park Community High School Mustangs have gotten their mojo back. No doubt, Patch Athlete of the Week winner Jeremy Esparza gave the team a push after emerging as the hero in the last game, kicking two field goals for the team, including a 28-yarder with 7.5 seconds left. Tonight, the Mustangs match up against Richmond-Burton in the second round of Class 4A in the IHSA Quarterfinals, with an energetic varsity team motivated by first-year coach Dan Hartman. If the Mustangs beat Richmond-Burton this evening, they'll be in the third round of the playoffs, the sweet taste of success the school hadn't tasted for more than 10 years. Can't believe how hard it is to come by score updates for Illinois HS teams. The EP score I saw was that they are trailing 7 - 0 at halftime.   more ›
