Transformer Fire Knocks Power Out on Kedzie Ave., Police Said

Police said the northeast section of Kedzie Avenue is experiencing a power outage this morning because of a transformer fire near Advocate Christ Medical Center.

After Mylar balloons knocked the power out on the a southern section of Kedzie Avenue earlier this month, Evergreen Park is experiencing another power outage. Police said power for the northeast section of the town was knocked out "because of a transformer fire by Christ Hospital," said Evergreen Park Police Captain Gregory LeCompte, of the special services division. Rob LeVan owner of Baseballracks.com, 9037 S. Kedzie Ave., a customized baseball accessories business, said when his team got in at 7 a.m., all the lights weren't turning on, "but [the power] finally just went out at 9 a.m." Officials from the Evergreen Park Fire Department said they've gotten some calls, but have been directing people to ComEd for more information. Batter up! BaseballRacks.com, run by an Evergreen Park man, has all the customizable baseball equipment a team could ever need--and they're not stopping there.

Dave Payton knows when most states start their high school baseball seasons. He didn't always know that Florida began their season in January, or Mississippi and Arkansas tend to follow the sunshine state. Payton quickly learned those schedules as demand boomed for the baseball products his company, BaseballRacks.com, produces. At first Payton only needed to build baseball helmet racks for one local team. From there, a few more ordered. Today, Payton is shipping those racks and other baseball accessories all over the country. "We're probably in 48 states," Payton, who, along with his partner Rob LeVan, own BaseballRacks.com.
