The idea of family seems to pop up again and again at the South Side Irish Parade: full floats emblazoned with the names of recognizable Beverly clans, children on their parents' shoulders craning their necks for a better view and the outpouring of support shown to the families of Fire Capt. Herbie Johnson, Firefighter Walter Patmon, Jr., and Police Officer Michael Flisk. It was a solemn way to start a parade, but a reminder that this community takes care of its own. Parade Day is almost upon us. Don't worry, we've got your back.
The South Side Irish Parade is this weekend and we here at Patch have pulled together everything you need to know to make the most of the best parade in Chicago. The official pre-parade Mass will be held at 9 a.m. at Saint Cajetan Church. For the first time this year a one mile run down Western Avenue will be held before the start of the parade. The Emerald Isle Mile kicks off at 11 a.m. Street closures start at 6 a.m. on parade day and last until 3 p.m. There will be no street parking on the east side of Artesian from 103rd to 111th or on the west side of Claremont from 103rd to 107th. Side streets will also be closed in the area around the parade route. If you are driving, wear comfortable shoes because you'll have to do some walking. …

The South Side Irish Parade list of parking restrictions and public safety precautions for the Sunday, March 10 event have been released: There will be no street parking on the east side of Artesian from 103rd to 111th or on the west side of Claremont from 103rd to 107th. Side streets will also be closed in the area around the parade route. If you are a resident and need to make alternate parking arrangements you can contact the committee at info@southsideirishparade.org for assistance. Once again, a strict zero-tolerance approach will be taken to open alcohol. Additional public safety procedures outlined by the committee are as follows: More Parade News: Updated, 4:40 p.m.

Margaret McGann will have the honor at next month's parade
The South Side Irish Parade crowned their first Parade Queen, Margaret McGann, at the pre-parade fundraiser party for this 2013 South Side Irish Parade on Friday, February 15, 2013. McGann, 24, a Palos Heights resident, will ride in a vintage convertible during the South Side Irish Parade along side 2012 Chicago Rose of Tralee Margaret Rose Keating, Miss Heart of Illinois 2013 Marisa Buchheit and Miss Illinois -United States 2012 Nancy To.
