Patch Participates in National Moment of Silence at 8:30 a.m. Friday

Your local Patch site will go dark during national observance for victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Patch sites around America, including yours, will take part in a National Moment of Silence at 8:30 a.m. Central time on Friday. At that hour, the website will go blank for 5 minutes. The page will be replaced by a message noting the National Moment of Silence, and a link will direct viewers to a website that explains ways you can join the campaign to help the people of Sandy Hook. The Moment of Silence coincides with one across social media sites. Over 100,000 people have pledged not to tweet or post to Facebook, reports TechCrunch, including Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Britney Spears, Suze Orman, Tyler Florence, Goldie Hawn, and Joe Montana. After 5 minutes, the website operation will return to normal.  Looking for ways to help the …

"Come now my children, let me show you …   more ›

Patch.com Witnesses Record Growth

We are so focused on the local scene that we don't often share the good news of Patch itself, still a toddler of a company that's growing by leaps and bounds. Monday, we put out a press release about some of the growth we've seen: Patch, AOL’s platform of local news, information and engagement sites, announced Monday, June 10, that May of 2012 was its most successful traffic and revenue period in the company’s history.  Patch served a record 11.7 million users in May (comScore), representing a 14% increase over April (10.3 million users) and an 11% increase over its previous traffic record (10.6 …

Evergreen Park Patch Turns 1 Year Old!

Happy Patchaversary Evergreen Park Patch! We've covered your village round-the-clock for one year today...and we're just getting started.

It's hard to believe that just one year ago, I frantically ran around Evergreen Park preaching the Patch gospel, letting everyone know about the new news source in town. The weeks leading up to launch, while work-heavy, helped us to eventually solidify our place in the community. You welcomed us into your village with open arms. You gave us a tour of your churches, schools, offices, the police department and the fire department. You allowed us to take photos of your facilities and actually took time to sit down and tell us about what your organization could offer the community. You've allowed us to mess up and most importantly learn from those mistakes. Some of you have welcomed us into your homes and allowed us to ask you private …
