Athlete of the Week: McAuley's Dillon Saves the Day

Junior lacrosse goalie Michelle Dillon had 24 saves in a big win over Marian Catholic.

Mother McAuley’s lacrosse team has made huge strides this year. This is the first varsity season for the program, and it’s only the second year McAuley has played the sport. Still, the Mighty Macs have notched some victories, including a win over St. Ignatius on May 12. Last Thursday, the Mighty Macs avenged an earlier loss by defeating Marian Catholic 16-14 in double overtime. Junior goalie Michelle Dillon had a game she will always remember, making 24 saves. “I was excited. My adrenaline was pumping,” Dillon said. “Knowing we had lost to this team by a lot before didn’t really help, but knowing that we beat Ignatius gave our whole team hope.” In recognition of her performance, Dillon has been named Patch’s Athlete of the Week. The Mighty…

Family, friends and faculty were proud to celebrate Mother McAuley's Class of 2011 Sunday afternoon.

A sea of white. That was the view as 379 seniors donning white dresses graduated from Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School Sunday afternoon. Perfect weather for the occasion allowed as many family and friends who desired to witness the event. Students shed tears as they listened to the honored speaker and head of the Art department, Kathleen Gordon Davis, share memories of watching them turn from McAuley girls to McAuley women.

Extra Points: Steal Seals Mother McAuley's Win over Rich Central

Postseason is on the mind for both girls basketball teams.

The Best Play: In its 44-42 home victory over Rich Central on Tuesday night, Mother McAuley needed a key steal to make up for its inability to make free throws down the stretch. With 12 seconds to play, the Mighty Macs led 43-42, but missed a free throw, giving Rich Central the chance to take the lead. Sophomore forward Sydney McPhillips, however, came up with a huge steal in the backcourt after Mother McAuley pressured Rich Central. Stats Pack: Rich Central, known for its full-court pressure and traps, was less enthusiastic with its pressure Tuesday night. Mother McAuley did a good job handling the ball, as the Macs had just 10 turnovers. Rich Central coach Bryan Craig said he’ll continue to ease up on the press because he has only a 7-to…
