The animal tested positive for rabies. City officials warn of the importance of getting your pet vaccinated for rabies.
The city of Chicago Commission of Animal Control announced on Tuesday that a bat has tested positive for rabies in the West Beverly/Morgan Park area. The bat was discovered on the 2600 block of W. 107th Street on Saturday, May 5. A rabies examination by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory determined that the bat was infected with rabies. Animal care urges residents to keep their dogs, cats and ferrets on a leash when they are outside of the home. They also recommend that you take any pet without a current rabies vaccination to a veterinarian to be inoculated. As always, it is not a good idea to handle any bats you may find. The South Side Irish Parade list of parking restrictions and public safety precautions for the Sunday, March 10 event have been released: There will be no street parking on the east side of Artesian from 103rd to 111th or on the west side of Claremont from 103rd to 107th. Side streets will also be closed in the area around the parade route. If you are a resident and need to make alternate parking arrangements you can contact the committee at info@southsideirishparade.org for assistance. A fund has been established to help the victims of last Saturday's fire that left almost 70 people without a home. Read to find easy ways to donate.
A Nov. 24 fire left almost 70 Morgan Park residents without a home and in need of basic essentials. The Saturday afternoon 3-11 fire roared through the 34-unit building at 2030 W. 111th Street and destroyed the internal structure of the top floors. A fund has now been established to help the victims of the fire.
