Dear Community Members: My wife Karen and I so value your friendship and wish to thank you for the support you’ve extended recently at the polls but especially over this last year when my personal health was briefly challenged through contraction of the West Niles Virus. Last month, we were both vividly reminded of what makes Evergreen Park one of the finest communities to call home. As we walked to Circle Park on an ordinary Saturday morning we didn’t know what to expect. We knew there would be some turnout for a run/walk memorial to Meg Donovan Moonan, but the overwhelming, heartfelt responsewas testament to the power of people in Evergreen Park. A letter to the editor from Mayor Jim Sexton's wife, Karen.
First and foremost I would like to thank all the hundreds of people who sent prayers, cards, well wishes, flowers, etc. when Jim was sick and the thousands of people who supported Jim during this election. The old saying goes what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and that is the case with Jim. I thank God every day that I don't live in the dark places that a few of these people that write into the Patch and other sites, this will be my one and only time I will write into the Patch. Jim Sexton is a man who loves his wife, children and loves loves his grand children. He has made such a difference in Evergreen Park since he has been Mayor, he has changed the whole look of Evergreen Park. He has brought tax dollars into the Village and …

Based on uncertified vote totals, it appears Mayor James Sexton will come out on top against write-in candidate Shawn Good.
It's another four years for Mayor James Sexton. Based on the number of ballots cast and the total unofficial vote tally it appears that Sexton has come out on top over write-in challenger Shawn Good. "I feel great, I have great supporters and we will continue on," Sexton said Tuesday night. Sexton had 2,560 votes out of 2,911 ballots cast, according to unofficial Cook County Clerk's office vote tallies. The actual write-in ballots will be tallied in about one week. Evergreen Park Mayor Jim Sexton hosted a 96th birthday luncheon Wednesday for Tony Yukich. Pictured with his dear friend Virginia Wroble, Yukich joined hundreds at the Evergreen Park American Legion Hall for the occasion. Yukich attributes his longevity to “clean living, good friends and the close-knit Evergreen Park community.” In 2000, Yukich was honored for his long-time dedication to the Evergreen Park community when one of the village’s largest parks was named after him. Yukich Field is located next to the Village of Evergreen Park Fire Department in the 9000 block of South Kedzie. This park features athletic fields, a walking track, ponds, an ice rink, two concession stands and restrooms. It is also home to the annual Hot Rod Classic…

The growing grocery chain wants to build a new location at the old Webb Ford site on 95th Street.
Evergreen Park could soon be the home of another new grocery store Mayor James Sexton announced Monday night. Mariano’s Fresh Market has found a new outpost at the old Webb Ford site at 2601 W. 95th St. The upscale grocer wants to open in Evergreen Park sometime in 2014, Sexton said. It was announced just last week that Mariano's will be the anchor tenant at Oak Lawn's retail development project at 111thStreet and Cicero Avenue. Mariano's Fresh Market has several locations in the Chicago-area and seems to be expanding. The store boasts luxury features like a wine and cheese bar, sushi and soft piano music, reported the Chicago Tribune. Evergreen Park Mayor James J. Sexton was welcomed back with a standing ovation at the village board meeting on Oct. 15. “I don’t think I’d be here without your prayers,” Sexton told the audience. Sexton, who is recovering from West Nile-related illness, chaired his first village meeting since being stricken in July. He offered a few details of his ordeal, assuring everyone that he would be back 100 percent; but there is still more physical therapy in his future. Calling it his “good fortune” to be taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, when initially diagnosed, Sexton complimented the doctors and therapists who took care of him.
