In honor of Martin Luther King Day, here are 10 things you may not know about the lauded civil rights leader who changed history: 1. Martin Luther King Jr. was christened Michael King Jr. When his father became pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1931, he adopted the name Martin Luther King Sr. -- in honor of Protestant leader Martin Luther -- and his son followed suit. However, King never legally changed his name. 2. The first assassination attempt on King was made in 1958 when a mentally ill woman named Izola Curry stabbed him in the chest with a steel letter open while he was signing books at a Harlem department store. Paying Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, we're giving you a chance to live or re-live his 'I Have a Dream' speech.

I wasn't around when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech, but there's no doubt in my mind that I am benefiting from the impact it made on society and will continue to make for years. As King spoke from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963 during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, what was going through his head? Did he have any doubts? Did he think he was being too edgy? Did he think he would help change the world? Given at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, the speech is credited for helping pass two important pieces of legislation, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965--African Americans and women benefited from them.
