Welcome to “Chowdown Showdown,” a weekly feature where we take one type of food and ask readers to nominate their favorite restaurants in Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn and Palos. This week’s food in focus was the Lenten staple, pepper and egg sandwiches. We tallied the votes on each respective Patch site and Facebook page. The selected restaurants for our second “Chowdown Showdown” all made great sandwiches. We sampled each and selected a winner. Palos Patch - Grassano's sandwich had the most green pepper flavor of the three we sampled. The bread was soft and complimented the texture of the eggs nicely. On April 15, St. Bernadette Church came together to enjoy their annual fish fry.
The atmosphere inside St. Bernadette Catholic Academy was alive as attendees shared drinks and laughs at this year’s annual fish fry. The fry, which is put on every year by St. Bernadette’s Men’s Club, is far more about relationship building than fundraising. "We like to call this event a 'fun' raiser rather than a fundraiser," said Men’s Club vice president Dan McKeown "because it’s not about the money. It’s about bringing the parishioners and the community together. If we accomplish that were happy." Take a peek inside this week's Viewfinder to check out the action. Viewfinder is our weekly photo gallery that runs every Thursday.
