Driving Range at New Park Nearing Completion

Village hoping for a May opening. Dog park is slated next for completion at new 50-acre park, officials say.

Duffers will have a new spot to chip golf balls this summer with the completion of the driving range at the new 50-acre park that is currently under construction at 91st Street and California Avenue. Sign up for the Evergreen Park newsletter and follow us on Facebook. Bill Lorenz, public works director for Evergreen Park, told village board members at their meeting on Monday that he’s shooting for an opening in the next month, pending weather. The park is being built on a piece of the former Evergreen Country Club property. “The driving range will be open by May,” Lorenz said. “We’re still in winter here. I’m still trying to shoot for an end-of-April opening.” Lorenz said equipment for the driving range has been ordered and the range is …

Just curious if anyone knows why this park is taking so long. Will it be three years if they don't finish until next spring? I could be wrong, but aren't parks FOR hanging out? And why such hatred for teenagers? I was one once. I didn't hurt anyone. I'm sure there will be plenty of police presence, as anywhere else in EP. I'm also curious how many Evergreen Parkers use Chicago and other suburbs. …   more ›

EP Mayoral Challenger Says She Will Fight To Get on April Ballot

Mayoral challenger Shawn Good has some interesting ideas for Evergreen Park, but first she must survive a petition challenge by two associates of Mayor James Sexton.

Evergreen Park mayoral challenger Shawn Good’s back is pressed against the ropes in her bid to get her name on the ballot in the upcoming April election. Sign up for the Evergreen Park Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. Like many rookie candidates, an objection has been filed against Good’s nominating petitions for not being securely bound when turned into the village and for lacking the proper number of valid signatures. Good is challenging Mayor James Sexton in the upcoming consolidated election. She represented herself before the Village of Evergreen Park’s electoral board on Jan. 10. Pending her objectors’ visit to the Cook County Clerk’s office to validate signatures on her petitions, whether or not her name ends up on the …

Thank you EP95, everything you wrote is true. Everyone else is watching their money in this economy, but I guess Mayor Sexton is punishing me and my 86 year old mom for over 2 years by not allowing her to collect rent and I have been fighting the Mayor since 2010 to open a business! Mayor Sexton Returns to the Evergreen Park Village Board

After a long bout of West Nile Virus Mayor James Sexton returned to run this week's village board meeting.

With the aid of a metal walker, a thinner and slightly stooped Evergreen Park Mayor James Sexton walked into the village board council chambers on Monday, Oct. 15. For the first time since July 16 he sat down behind his nameplate and promptly gaveled a village board meeting to order. When his name was called as part of Village Clerk Catherine Aparo's roll call, the entire room stood and applauded. "It's been a while," he said. "I've missed you all." Sexton has been recovering from the effects of West Nile Virus since late July. Much about his illness, including where he had been hospitalized and when he would return, was closely guarded by his family and village officials. Even village employees gathered before Monday night's meeting were …
