The perennially strong program will have a new leader next season.
The Redhawks are getting a new coach. Marist High School Principal Larry Tucker and Athletic Director Bob Lim announced on Wednesday that Julie Popp Hopkins will take over as the new Marist women’s varsity volleyball coach. Hopkins will also become a physical education instructor at the school. Hopkins will suceed longtime coach Natalie Holder who resigned at the end of last season. Hopkins already has a few titles on her resume. She taught and coached at The Latin School in Chicago where her teams won back to back league titles in 2011 and 2012. The Chicago Catholic League Individual Wrestling Championships take place Saturday, Jan. 19 and you can watch full coverage right here on Patch. We will be streaming live video of the meet starting Saturday morning. Schools competing in the tournament include: Mount Carmel, St. Rita, Providence Catholic, Brother Rice, Loyola Academy, Fenwick, Gordon Tech, Bishop McNamara, De La Salle, Saint Ignatius, St. Francis de Sales, St. Laurence and St. Joseph.
