Shhhh. Don't tell anybody, but Fairplay Foods, the Chicago-regional supermarket chain, is having a "soft" opening for its new Oak Lawn store at 87th Street and Cicero Avenue. The managers and staff will be putting on the final touches for the grand opening on Thursday, Oct.18. The Oak Lawn store is the seventh to open under the Fairplay banner, which has stores in Worth, Hickory Hills, Markham and three on Chicago's South Side. Nearly two years after Webb Ford closed its doors at 2601 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park, one of the landowners says he's hopeful the vacant property will be sold by the first of the year. Marty Webb, a member of the family that owned the old Ford dealership, said the 6.5-acre parcel is under contract to sell. He declined to disclose the name of the party interested in the site but added that the contract expires at the first of the year. He hopes a deal is completed before then. However, Evergreen Park Mayor James Sexton said one development proposal involves a regional grocer on the site, possibly with some additional stores as outlot buildings.
