Oak Lawn Police confirm that bank robbery suspect is in custody after 11-hour standoff.
OUTSIDE CHICAGO, IL -- Police SWAT teams nabbed a man suspected of robbing an Oak Lawn bank on Saturday afternoon after an 11-hour standoff. Around 2:14 p.m. Saturday, a suspect described as a male black in his 20s entered the Bank of America at 4046 W. 111th St. through a hole in the roof after the bank had closed. Two bank employees were handcuffed with zip ties. The alleged bandit escaped through the ceiling with an undisclosed amount of cash, Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann said. Police believe bank robbery suspect is still in the building.
Update 12:20 a.m. Here is our last update on Saturday's bank robbery. More than 60 law enforcement officers, including Oak Lawn Police, the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, FBI and Cook County Sheriff's Police remain at the Bank of America shopping center as of midnight. Oak Lawn Division Chief Mike Kaufmann said police still believe the bank robbery suspect, described as a male black in his 20s, is holed up in the ceiling. There is no further information. If there is an update later this morning, Kaufmann said that a press release will be sent out today. The FBI has joined an international manhunt for a missing bridegroom after his new wife was found slain in their Burbank apartment hours after they were married last weekend. A federal warrant charging Arnoldo Jiminez, 30, with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued Thursday in U.S. District Court in Chicago. Jiminez was charged earlier this week in Cook County Criminal Court with one count of first- degree murder for the stabbing death of his 26-year-old wife, Estrella Carrera. Multiple law enforcement agencies continue their search for two men who took over and robbed the First American Bank, at 11821 S. Western Ave. in Chicago, on Tuesday. The robbery happened just before 10 a.m., when two men brandishing handguns entered the bank, the FBI said. The FBI said that one of the robbers stood guard over employees and customers in the lobby, and a second robber vaulted the teller counter. After removing money from an open teller drawer, the second robber forced an employee to open the vault. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash, placing the money into a black plastic garbage bag that he’d brought with him. Tammie, If some bank robber got away from the police. I would expect a code red phone call to my home from the police dept with a description of the man.or woman. I have a right to know weather I am looking out for a white, yellow ,black, or purple loose bank robber. My rights come before racial sensitivities.   more ›
