Tony Gambino III has apparently given up on trying to make a go of a restaurant at 3342 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park. Connect to Patch: Oak Lawn / Evergreen Park / Beverly-Mt. Greenwood Gambino first tried it with one of his Taco Fresco franchises, which have been successful elsewhere in the Chicago area but didn’t catch on in Evergreen Park or Tinley Park. About a year ago, he borrowed a page from his family’s successful Moon’s Sandwich Shop at 16 S. Western Ave. and opened Tony Moon’s Burgers, which got generally good grades from online reviewers. Lou Malnati’s pizza chain is hoping to open its latest location at 5261 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn by the first week of November. The Oak Lawn location would be No. 35 for the chain, which is famous for its deep dish pizza. “Most of our locations are in Chicago and the northern suburbs,” said Director of Marketing Mindy Kaplan. “We just opened a store in Joliet and are looking more into expanding in the south suburbs. “We’re really excited about opening a location in Oak Lawn,” Kaplan said. AMC has finished updating the seats and screens at its six theaters inside Chicago Ridge Mall. As part of the renovation, AMC opened a new concession stand and MacGuffin’s Bar in June, which offers moviegoers beer, wine and cocktails to enjoy before, after and even during a movie. The dream of Oak Lawn residents Michael and Denise Stillman to turn the site of the classic baseball movie “Field of Dreams” into All-Star Ballpark Heaven continues to move ahead. After my kids initially gave me a bad review of Moon's, what I found out was that they ordered the sausage burger expecting a hamburger, and when I finally gave it a try and ordered the actual hamburger (cheeseburger) I loved it. Only made it twice though before they closed. I hope someone finds something that works in that space.   more ›
