How To Register For the Beverly Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk

The Nov. 24 run/walk is the perfect post-Thanksgiving workout.

Spaces are quickly filling up for the 4th annual Beverly Turkey Trot.  The 5K is open to both runners and walkers and participants of all ages. What better way to shake off some of that Thanksgiving feasting than with a nice family walk?  The race will make its way through the historic North Beverly neighborhood on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. Things kick-off at Kellogg School, 9241 South Leavitt St. The cost is $30 for adults, $20 for kids and $60 for an unlimited family pass.  Proceeds will benefit the the John McNicholas Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and the 19th Ward Youth Foundation.  To register visit the event's page. Training for a 5K is a great way to boost your cardiovascular health, reduce stress or simply add more running to your routine. With five great local 5K Runs (or Walks) coming up it’s a great time to get up off the couch or push away from the desk and do something for you! The Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn and Mt. Greenwood and Beverly offer some excellent spaces to run and train, including Saint Xavier University’s Outdoor Sports Center, Oak Lawn’s Wolf Wildlife Trail, the local high schools and lots of forest preserve trails where you can commune with nature while getting into shape. I believe these races are to help raise money for causes. Being a lard-butt, doing a 5K would be an accomplishment for me. I should probably try for one of these.   more ›
