CN100 Game of the Week: Boys Basketball - Richards vs. Oak Forest

The CN100 Game of the Week continues its coverage of the 2013-14 prep basketball season with action featuring the Richards Bulldogs and Oak Forest Bengals. CN100 will playback the game at Noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, and at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, on The Comcast Network. Visit cn100.tv to find additional air times. Firefighter Fitness, Fun & Food (All ages)

By the time firefighters put on their gear, it can add up to 60 pounds to their weight. Find out how firefighters keep fit, what they eat and how to stay safe all year long. Program will include stories, equipment show-and-tell, and a question- and-answer session. FREE. Starts at 10 a.m. at the Oak Lawn Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave.

Bluegrass Music at Beverly Arts Center

The Henhouse Prowlers will perform a show of traditional music and originals inspired by the roots of bluegrass at 8 p.m. at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. The Leadfoot Band opens.  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at www.beverlyartcenter.org or through the box office at 773-445-3838.  TheHenhouse Prowlers push the envelope of bluegrass with their uniquely original songwriting and tight arrangements. Their most recent album, “Breaking Ground,” was produced by Greg Cahill, the Grammy-nominated band-leader of Special Consensus. Chicago-based bluegrass/newgrass quartet The Leadfoot Band is known for a hard-driving, high-octane brand of bluegrass, roots, and rock-influenced acoustic music farther than before.


South Side Baptist Church -- Kids Basketball Club

Boys and girls from kindergarten through the sixth grade are invited to join South Side Baptist Church’s Kids’ Basketball Club. All children from the community are welcome. The club runs Saturdays beginning Jan. 18 through March 8. Grades K-2 will meet from 9 to 10 a.m.; grades 3-6 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Children will learn basic skills and be placed on teams to play games. South Side Baptist is located at 5220 W. 105th St. in Oak Lawn. Cost is $10.


5th Annual Special Olympics Basketball Day


Pack the house for the fifth annual Special Olympics Basketball Day at Mother McAuley High School, 3737 W. 99th St., in Chicago. Over 70 athletes and cheerleaders from Chicago’s South Side and south suburbs. Fans will experience the living embodiment of sportsmanship, camaraderie, basketball and cheerleading on the South Side of Chicago. Proceeds raised at this event help support the Oak Lawn Special Olympics programs. New this year is the “Pack the House Partnership,” that’s open to any sports program (travel teams, school, park district, softball team, etc.). Cash prizes of $3,000, $1,500 and $500 will be awarded to the sports program with the HIGHEST ATTENDANCE. Enter to win by emailing olspobb@gmail.com. FREE ADMISSION. Oak Lawn Chamber Installation Dinner

The Oak Lawn Chamber is hosting its 68th annual installation dinner at the Hilton Oak Lawn, 9333 S. Cicero Ave. The chamber will introduce its new president for 2014 plus honor local business leaders and install the new board. Includes drinks, dinner and dancing. Black tie optional. Sunday With Friends Concert: Tropical Sound Steel Drums

Winter got you down? Come experience the sounds of the tropics at the Oak Lawn Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave. The Friends of the Library presents a steel drum concert, featuring the spirit of the Caribbean Islands with a variety of tropical music, including reggae, calypso, soca, Latin and pop. FREE. 2 p.m.


Free Throw Concert for Boys and Girls 9-14

Knights of Columbus Council #14553 is sponsoring a free throw contest at the St. Germaine Activity Center, 9711 S. Kolin Ave. in Oak Lawn. This is a district-wide contest, and winners will move on to regional and possibly a State Contest. The winners will receive medals for their success. Free hot dogs and soda for all participants.
