FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13


Live Outdoor Nativity

Mt. Zion Lutheran Church invites community children and their parents to take part in a live reenactment of the Christmas story. Come pet the animals and hear the story of Mary, Joseph, the angels, wise men and shepherds at the outdoor stable. Everyone is invited to sing the Christmas carols that accompany each scene. Pet the animals before heading inside the church for cookies and hot chocolate. The live nativity is handicapped accessible, and angels in wheelchairs and shepherds with assistants are welcome. Free. 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday. 10400 S. Kostner Ave., Oak Lawn.

“Christmas Memories”

Celebrate the Christmas season with South Side Baptist School’s all-school show “Christmas Memories.” The youngest students from the 3-year-old program all the way up to high school will perform serious and not-so-serious Christmas songs that reflect the true meaning of the season. Free. 7 p.m. 5220 S. 105th St., Oak Lawn.

“Camel Lot”

Join First United Reformed Church of Oak Lawn for a presentation of the children’s Christmas musical “Camel Lot,” as performed by puppets. It's a story about a girl whose father owns a car lot.  She falls asleep after practicing for her Christmas program and dreams that her father owns not a car lot, but a camel lot in Bethlehem. Free. 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 94th St. and 54th Ave. in Oak Lawn.

Paul Kelly's Yule Laugh

The Beverly Arts Center will play host to this Christmas themed comedy show featuring BAC favorite Paul Kelly and special guests James Wesley Jackson and Bill Gorgo. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10. 

“Believe In Your Elf”

The Oak Lawn Park District Community Theatre group presents an original Christmas musical featuring new versions of popular holiday tunes. “Believe In Your Elf” is a humorous and heartwarming tale set in Santa Claus’s workshop. As hysterical elves get ready for Santa’s Christmas Eve flight, the elves hear the stories of three different families who each have their struggles heading into Christmas. Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., Oak Lawn. Shows run through Dec. 15, with matinee and evening shows Saturday and Sunday. Evening performances start at 8 p.m.; matinee shows 3 p.m. Adults $21; children 12 and under, $17. For tickets, call the box office at 708-857-2200.

Chicago Bronze Handbell Ensemble

Ring in the Christmas season with the English handbell ensemble Chicago Bronze at Trinity Evangelical Church. Chicago Bronze concerts highlight the variety of the instrument and are enjoyed by music lovers of all ages.  Come experience the joy of this wonderful music. 3 p.m. Free. 9230 S. Pulaski Road.


Doug Lee and the South Side Blues Band

Doug Lee is bringing his power blues sounds to SIP Appetizer Bar for a live music review. Lee has played with such blues legends as Buddy Guy, BB King and the late Muddy Waters. SIP offers a cool atmosphere with a great wine and martini list, along with an unbelievable tapas or appetizer plate. Free. 4911 W. 95th St.

Mount Greenwood Park Winter Wonderland

From 2 to 5 p.m. take the kids up to Mount Greenwood Park for an afternoon of holiday activities that including free ice skating, carriage rides, holiday crafts, a magician, and reading of The Night Before Christmas, with hot chocolate and cookies. Santa Claus will be available for photos. 

Santa Visits Immanuel United Church of Christ

Take a break from the long lines at the mall and drop in on Santa at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Evergreen Park. Children can have their photos taken with Santa by church members (to be emailed to parents) and help prepare the manger for Baby Jesus. Christmas storytelling, coloring and refreshments will be available, along with a small treat to take home. RSVP the number attending to pastoryvette8@yahoo.com or by calling 708-424-3755. Canticum Novum Christmas Concert

St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish presents the Canticum Novum (Latin for New Song from Psalm 98) Christmas concert. The adult a cappella choir will sing both classical and contemporary music of the season.  Canticum Novum has been performing together since 1999.  Members of the choir have backgrounds in a variety of musical performance and musical teaching careers.  4 p.m. Free-will offerings gratefully accepted. 10621 S.
