Beverly Arts Center Oktoberfest Leads Your Full Weekend Events Guide

All the weekend fun that's fit to print.

There's plenty to do around the Evergreen/Beverly/Mt. Greenwood /Oak Lawn area this weekend. From a good old fashioned Oktoberfest to a Greek Bazaar, opportunities abound to get out and enjoy the fall weather. If we missed an event, give it a plug in the comments section below. 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19

BACtoberfest - The Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th Street, will host an Oktoberfest event featuring food, music and and a special on Goose Island Oktoberfest beer. The music schedule is the Bratwurst Brothers playing from 5 pm. to 6 pm., Brown Bag from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Terriers will perform from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. and The In- Laws band from 9 to 10 p.m. Food and deserts will be by Sweet Freaks. Admission is $10. 

Murph's Gift of Music Fundraiser - The benefit concert and event at 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 West 115th Street, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. will support the The Michael J. Murphy Scholarship Music Fund, an award that supports music and dance lessons as well as provides instruments to children from families that do not have the financial means for this opportunity. Performing will be Coyote RiotThe Chancey BrothersA Week Back and Friends and The Larkin and Moran Brothers. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for ages 13-20 years old, $5 for ages 6-12 years old. Recycling Event - Sen. Bill Cunningham (18th) and Rep. Fran Hurley (35th) are in cooperation with the Worth Township Senior Club and AT&T are hosting a free recycling event at Worth Township at 11601 W. Pulaski Ave. from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Bring your sensitive papers, financial documents and other materials that you would like to shred.

More Free Paper Shredding - Looking for something to do with your Saturday morning? How about bringing your canceled checks, financial documents and sensitive papers over to Standard Bank and Trust at 7800 W. 95th St., in Hickory Hills. The bank is offering free paper shredding starting at 10 a.m. Limit is four banker boxes per household.

Queen of Martyrs Trivia Night - Queen of Martyrs Church,  , will host a trivia contest featuring cash prizes and a raffle. Doors open at 6 p.m. and trivia runs from 7 to 10 p.m.

$250 per table of 10 or $25 per person. 

OLCHS PTSA Holiday Craft and Business Showcase - The PTSA of Oak Lawn Community High School is hosting a holiday craft fair and business showcase featuring crafters and artisans from around the region. Local businesses and vendors from the Oak Lawn area will also be on hand to display their products and services. Free health screenings are also featured. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. OLCHS is located at 9400 Southwest Highway in Oak Lawn.

Build-A-Shelter Workshop - Interested in helping outdoor cats survive the winter? Triple R Pets is sponsoring a build-a-shelter workshop for feral cat lovers. Learn how to build a warm, snug shelter for outdoor kitties. The workshop meets at PAWS located at 8301 W. 191st St. in Tinley Park. Dress warm because the workshop is outdoors. Rain date is Oct. 26. Hometown VFW Italian Night - Come enjoy a delicious Italian dinner at the Hometown VFW, at 9092 S. Main St. in Hometown, off of Southwest Highway. Choose between spaghetti and meatballs or spaghetti and sausage. 3 p.m. Dinner is just $6.

St. Nicholas Bazaar - Opa! It’s the St. Nicholas Ladies Philoptochos Society 41st annual artist, crafter and vendor show featuring an exciting array of displays with unique items for home, gifts and enjoyment. Greek food and pastries to eat in or take out and a FREE pastry raffle round out this local favorite. The bazaar will be held in the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Community Center; 10301 S Kolmar Ave, Oak Lawn, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission $1. Palos Park Paranormal Conference - Vendors, speakers and demonstrations from experts in the field will be on hand at the unique conference at the Palos Country Club, 13100 Southwest Highway, this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20. The two-day event also includes ghost hunters, fortune telling and haunted history as well as a presentation from Bill Homann, the caretaker of the Mitchell Hedges Crystal Skull. open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 per day, or $15 for a two day pass.

SUNDAY, OCT. 20

Johnson-Phelps VFW Fall Craft and Vendor Fair - The fine ladies of the Johnson-Phelps VFW Ladies Auxiliary are putting on their third annual fall craft and vendor show. This intimate showcase offers a diverse selection of crafters and vendors, including Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Partylite, Thirty One, Origami Owl, Scentsy Wickless Candles, Nomade's, Premier Design and much more. Complete ALL of your fall/winter-time shopping and beat the holiday rush. Lunch and beverages will be sold along with the Ladies Aux bake sale and a fun raffle. Proceeds from the Craft Fair will help our veterans and community projects. Free admission. Starts at 10 a.m. The post is located at 9415 S. 52nd St. in Oak Lawn.

Sunday with Friends Concert: Midway Ramblers Cajun Band - Foot-tapping Cajun and hot zydeco, spicy swamp pop, and Louisiana blues. It's a party from the start! The Midway Ramblers is an authentic and spirited Cajun band that knows how to entertain audiences. Featuring bass guitar, button accordion, fiddle, guitar, percussion, triangle/rub board and vocals. Lower level meeting rooms, free admission, first-come, first-seated. 2 p.m. FREE. All concerts are sponsored by the Friends of the Oak Lawn Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave., Oak Lawn.
