County to Spray For Mosquitoes in Evergreen Park Monday Night

Evergreen Park residents might notice some odd looking trucks cruising through town this evening. Mosquito abatement trucks will spray throughout the village tonight.

As cases of West Nile virus continue to pop up in Evergreen Park and the surrounding suburbs, Cook County is looking to keep the local mosquito population in check. 

Monday evening, from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Cook County mosquito abatement trucks will be driving through the village's streets and alleys. 

According to village officials, the insecticide is completely harmless to both humans and pets. They do however recommend that those suffering from respiratory problems take precautions.

The air is usually cleared within 30 minutes of the truck passing. 

As of Aug. 24, . Six of those cases are local, cases include:

  • A man in his 60s in Evergreen Park
  • An Oak Lawn man in his 60s
  • A man in his 30s in Palos Park,
  • And in Oak Forest man in his 40s and a girl in her teens.

Evergreen Park Mayor James Sexton . He has been hospitalized for the past several weeks, and is expected to make a full the recovery. 

The Center for Disease Control reports that nation-wide, we are seeing the highest numbers of West Nile virus since the disease was first detected in this country in 1999.
