On His Game: Evergreen Park's Anthony Briante Goes the Distance

Anthony Briante had a breakout season as a sophomore, taking 10th in the boys cross country regional for the Mustangs.

Anthony Briante wasn't the fastest freshman when he joined 's cross country team in his first year of high school. 

But he certainly made sure he would be the next season.

"He fell in love with it," Evergreen Park coach Libby McArthur said. "He worked his butt off all summer to become that No. 1 sophomore guy."

Briante returns to help pace the varsity team this season. He took 10th at regionals last year and is looking to break 17 minutes for three miles.

"I think by the end of the season he'll be in the high 16:00s," McArthur said.
