Knight, Karstrand Top Evergreen Park List

Mustang standouts honored as all-conference performers; Baseball team falls shorts on Knight's birthday.

Evergreen Park had a very successful winter athletically, placing a number of individuals on all-conferences teams. In boys basketball, senior Dillon Knight was an all-conference pick, while in girls basketball senior Courtney Karstrand achieved the feat.

Jesse McLain of the wrestling team, Sean Morrison on the boys swim team, Shannon Ogorzalek of the bowling team, and Dorothy Kalafut on the cheerleading team each earned all-conference honors, too.

* The Evergreen Park softball team played Chicago Christian on Wednesday, losing 4-1. from the game. Junior Michelle Putlak led the Mustangs with seven innings pitched. Putlak only trailed 2-1 entering the seventh inning.

“We didn’t hit, but we’ll be there,” Evergreen Park coach John O’Connor said. “Michelle (Putlak) competed nicely for six innings and then had a little shaky seventh. She helped lead the team.”

Putlak added a double and a run scored at the plate.

* If you missed it, the Evergreen Park baseball team dropped its opener to on Wednesday. On Monday, the Mustangs take on Illiana Christian, which won its season opener. No. 1 pitcher Ben Modesitt will be on the mound.

* Evergreen Park senior center fielder Dillon Knight (also a basketball player) is expecting a successful year.

“I think we have a real good shot at winning conference and winning a regional championship,” he said. “We all have to buy into it, we can do it.”

Knight’s 18th birthday was this past Wednesday, but the Mustangs were unable to get the win on his special day.

* The Evergreen Park boys track team is competing in Romeoville today.
