Gimme 5: Swim Guru Nolan the Master of Evergreen Park Aquatics

Evergreen Park Recreation Department's Amanda Nolan finds time to be a student at St. Xavier and run aquatics programs.

Armed with a love of swimming, Amanda Nolan has carved her own path to continue her career in the pool.

While Nolan swam at Evergreen Park High School, her career is not limited to high school competition. She has worked her way up at the Evergreen Park Recreation Department. She started as a lifeguard, then became a water aerobics instructor, then a swim coach and now runs all the aquatic programs for the Evergreen Park Recreation Department, .

Nolan attends St. Xavier University, where she is earning a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. She wants to go into health and holistic medicine when she’s finished at St. Xavier.

In the meantime, she is a student and runs all the aquatic programs for the recreation department. She’s applying all that she’s learned from swimming into her life.

“It’s helped me out greatly,” Nolan said of what she’s learned from the sport. “First off, not being a wimp with life, knowing that things are going to be super, super hard and you have to work for them. Nothing comes easy, and you’re not going to get something by just sitting on the couch.”
