Gimme 5: Hartman Getting Evergreen Park Football Up to Speed

Dan Hartman, the new football coach at Evergreen Park, reflects on the progress his team has made learning his system.

With August right around the corner, the high school football season will soon be kicking off. That means is preparing for his first season with the Mustangs.

Hartman said the summer has been a productive one for his team.

“We’ve had a chance to do some seven-on-sevens with some other teams,” he said. “We’ve gone over to Saint Xavier and we’ve also done some stuff with Chicago Christian and T.F. North. Basically, this summer’s been devoted to installing a new system and new terminology. It’s been pretty good so far.”

Hartman said introducing the “language” of his system is the biggest concern facing his team.

“I think the biggest issue we need to address is getting everyone on the same page with the new terminology,” he said. “A lot of the scheme is the same, it’s just called different things. Getting everyone to know the system is probably the thing we need to address the most.”

Hartman said his acclimation to the Evergreen Park community has gone well.

“The community here has been really good,” he said. “They’ve basically accepted me. Everyone’s been really kind and basically given me anything I’ve needed trying to make the transition as easy as possible.”
