Gimme 5: Evergreen Park's Geiger Shows His Love of Running

Mustang sprinter sets goal of advancing downstate in the 200-meter dash this season.

Do you ever have a hard time picking yourself up to go for a run? Maybe you should look to Evergreen Park senior track standout FreVante Geiger for inspiration.

“I just love running,” Geiger said.

Geiger competes in the 100- and  200-meter dash events. He also runs on the Mustangs' 4x100 and 4x200 relays. He long jumps. And he runs the 400, too.

He plays defensive end for the Evergreen Park football team, but he said he likes track better.

“I just like the speed," Geiger said. "I like running fast."

Geiger started running cross country in sixth grade. He began running track in seventh grade. When he enrolled at Evergreen Park, he thought he would be just a football player, but he couldn’t let track go.

Geiger’s individual goal this season is to qualify for state in the 200, his favorite event. The qualifying time in Class 2A  is 22.3 seconds.
