FOOTBALL: Evergreen Park Edges Richards In Upset, 35-34

Finally Evergreen Park Community High School is getting some respect after battle of the wills with Richards. Watch the highlight reel.

We said two weeks ago that the Evergreen Park Mustangs were the Rodney Dangerfield of the South Suburban Red Football Conference after their victory over the Oak Lawn Spartans.

Now, after beating the Richards Bulldogs, Evergreen Park Community High School is finally getting some respect.

These two undefeated teams went blow-for-blow in a nail biter that saw Mustangs’  junior backup QB Sean Ryan run the ball in the last 24 seconds for the game-tying touchdown.

Matt Schulte kicked the winning point for Mustangs, putting the herd on top of the Richards Bulldogs, 35-34.

Regarding the Facebook rumor that Evergreen Park had an extra player on the field for Ryan’s tying touchdown, Richards Coach Tony Sheehan said they reviewed the game film:

“They didn’t have an extra player on the field. Not true,” Sheehan said.

The undefeated ‘Stangs battle their second undefeated team in row, taking on the 5-0 Argo Argonauts, fresh off their non-conference triumph over Thorton-Fractional North.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Argo High School, 7329 W. 63rd St., Summit.
