Evergreen Park's Steen, Symnaski Recognized as Wendy's High School Heisman Nominees

Evergreen Park seniors Neil Steen and Kerry Symnaski have been nominated to represent the Mustangs in the Wendy's High School Heisman program.

Under the it's never-too-daring to dream big category, perhaps Evergreen Park High School seniors Neil Steen and Kerry Symnaski should begin to clear some space in their trophy cases.

Big space.

Steen (football and boys track and field) and Symanski (girls swimming) have been selected as Evergreen Park's nominees in the Wendy's High School Heisman program. The two will be recognized for the feat during an honors night celebration on May 14 at Evergreen Park High School.

To be eligible for the Wendy's High School Heisman, students must boast a 3.0 grade-point average, participate in at least one sport, provide leadership in the community and serve as role models for underclassmen.

While wearing the Mustangs' green, Steen and Symanski far-exceeded the minimum standards. As school winners at Evergreen Park, they will now compete to become Illinois finalists. Ten males and 10 females are selected by the Wendy's judges as state finalists.

From there, Judges select 102 state winners (two from each state and the District of Columbia), then pare the field to 12 national finalists and finally to two national winners. The finalists will be brought to New York City for Heisman weekend activities. Winners will be announced on Dec. 12, 2012, on ESPN2.

Steen ranks No. 1 in a class of about 225 graduating seniors. He also has been featured for his grounds keeping work at the Ronald McDonald House.
