Evergreen Native Estand Swings Big Bat on Campus

Evergreen Park resident and St. Rita graduate Sean Estand concludes his award-worthy season at St. Joseph's College.

The achievements and accolades have piled up this year for Evergreen Park resident and St. Rita graduate Sean Estand.

The senior baseball star at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., has been named as a semifinalist for the Tino Martinez Award. The award is given to the most outstanding baseball player in Division II. Estand also has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year.

His numbers show why he deserves these honors. According to a recent news release, Estand led his team with a .381 batting average. He also drove in 49 runs while scoring 47 times. And he was steady on the defensive end, as he had 106 assists from third base.

In conference, Estand led the GLVC with 51 hits and 34 runs scored. His .418 batting average and 34 RBIs in conference were good for second.

St. Joseph’s finished its season 22-25-1 overall and 15-19 in the GLVC.

Evergreen Athletic Leaders Wall Adds 17

Evergreen Park recently added to its Wall of Fame. The recently established EPCHS Varsity Athletic Leaders Wall received 17 new members: Farzaan Kassam, , Matt Deal, , Rich Daker, Courtney Karstrand, Vince Cericola, Emma Point, Nick Nastasowski, Jolyne Piet, Curby Marshall, Alyssa Langevin, , , , Dan Cronin and .

“This program was established to help keeps athletes involved and increase numbers throughout their Jr/Sr years as well as to recognize those athletes that have given so much time to EPCHS athletics,” Evergreen Park athletic director Jim Soldan wrote in a recent news release.
