Boys Basketball: Mustangs Fall Victim to Eisenhower's Record Shooting

The Hot Read: Evergreen Park's boys basketball team was part of history as Eisenhower set a national high school record for three-point attempts in a season during a 98-79 victory over the Mustangs on Friday night. Eisenhower boosted its year-long three-point attempt total to 1,309. The Cardinals came in needing 21 attempts to break the record and surpassed their goal as they took 49 attempts and connected on 16 in a shootout. Eisenhower's blitz was just too tough for the Mustangs to overcome. The Cardinals were relentless from start-to-finish with their five-in, five-out fullcourt pressure concept. The Mustangs enjoyed an exceptional shooting night at 34-of-58 from the field behind seniors James Werner and Marcus Kemp, but turnovers and second-chance opportunities keyed Eisenhower's run. Evergreen Park managed to hang close for the first quarter and half, but a 12-2 Cardinal run broke open the game and gave Eisenhower a 47 -34 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
Patch’s Co-MVP: Marcus Kemp, a 6-4 senior from Evergreen Park, tallied 20 points on 8-of 10-shooting. He also grabbed 10 rebounds. James Werner scored 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting. He added seven rebounds.
