Gimme 5: Brother Rice Volleyball's Carroll Carries on Family Tradition

Brother Rice senior Mike Carroll was taught how to play volleyball by his two older sisters.

Brother Rice senior Mike Carroll is an outside hitter for the Crusanders Crusaders. The Chicago Ridge native can be found on Chicago's Montrose, Oak Street and North Avenue beaches playing volleyball when he is not with his summer team at Palos Courts.

Carroll's older sisters brought him in to the game of volleyball, but he's turned into quite a player these days all on his own. He said the Crusaders' record last season did not show how well they played.

"(Carroll) has been working hard all summer, and the beach is a great way to train for the indoor game," Brother Rice coach Paul Ickes said.
