D124 Board Swears In New Members, Elects Officers

The new members of the District 124 Board of Education have started their terms.

After what can only be considered a long year, the District 124 School Board welcomed new faces to its ranks on May 1.

Four new members were sworn in on the seven-person board. None of the incumbents up for reelection ran again in April.

Julie Egan, Ray Richter, Gina Canon and Mary Pniewski were sworn in by current board president Kathy Rohan.

The first action for the new board was to vote on officers. The three incumbents were unanimously selected to hold office. Kathy Rohan was once again voted in as president, Dawn McNamara will be vice president and Kim Leonard secretary.

The new board members met last week for an orientation session and last month participated in a training session with Illinois Association of School Boards.

Superintendent Robert Machak says he looks forward to working with the new members.

"I am very excited about meeting people with new ideas," Machak said. "Obviously all four of these folks are very motivated by service to the community and am looking forward to tapping into their expertise."
