Emergency school closings for Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park and surrounding communities for Jan. 6, 2013.

Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park kids will have an extra day of winter vacation as many districts and parochial schools postpone classes because of the dangerous sub zero weather forecasted for Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning for Cook County in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday through noon Tuesday.

A blast of arctic air may deliver the coldest weather in 20 years to the Midwest in what the National Weather Service is calling an "dangerous arctic outbreak."

Monday will see a high of -12 and a low of -16. Factor in the wind chill and it will feel like -40 to -50. Tuesday is expected to “warm up” to only 3 degrees F.

Nothing more than the continuing pussification of our youth. Making them afraid of something not worth being afraid of when the proper selection of clothing and layers would do the job for the 10-20 minutes they'd be outside tops. The economy gets hurt later down the road when they call in to their job because "it's too cold outside to come to work today." This is disgusting. All this is is setting up today's kids for a bigger rude awakening when they get to the real world. Meanwhile, the high temp in a major city in Siberia is -33 tomorrow. THEIR children will be going to school while ours get another day of video games, TV, and Facebook. Brutal.
