More than Half of South Suburban Cook County Races Uncontested, Evergreen Park Included

Voters will have no choice in 64 percent of the contests in the upcoming April 9 election.

We’ve all heard of voter apathy, but candidate apathy?

Of the nearly 1,000 south suburban Cook County contests in the upcoming April 9 election, 64 percent are uncontested, according to Clerk David Orr. This includes both Evergreen Park village board, District 124 and Evergreen Park High School.

Mayor Jim Sexton faces a challenger in write-in candidate Shawn Good. However, there are no contested board member seats. The same is true in Evergreen Park's school districts. Both District 124 and 231 have no contested races.
