Electricity Referendum Passes in Evergreen Park

Local voters overwhelmingly supported the referendum during Tuesday's election.

Evergreen Park voters supported the electricity referendum by 68 percent during Tuesday's election. Some 1,931 local voters are in favor of the referendum. There were 878 votes against it.

Mayor James Sexton, at  earlier this month urged residents to vote "yes" on an electrical referendum that he says may lower electrical bills.

Evergreen Park "will be allowed to negotiate a better rate for electrical service," he said. The village currently contracts electrical service to ComEd and hopes to be able to negotiate with other companies.
