Election 2011: D 124 Board Candidate Dawn Doyle McNamara on the Issues

As a follow-up to our initial candidate questionnaires, Evergreen Park Patch asked the candidates of District 124 Board of Education a few issue-based questions to get a more in-depth view of them.

Eight candidates are campaigning for three seats on the   answers a few issue-based questions about the school district, consolidations and its relationship with other area schools.

Do you think Districts 124 and 231 should combine?

I am all for District 124 and 231 consolidating. I have said that for years. I believe it is in the best interest for the children and the taxpayers. Unfortunately, I have heard that the teachers from EPCHS don't believe our children are ready for high school. If we were combined, we would all be on the same page. Also from a financial stand point it just makes sense, one superintendent for 6 schools is more than doable.

Should District 124 consider consolidation with other area districts?

No I am not for District 124 consolidating with other districts in the area. While I know it is makes sense from a money point of view, I like that our district is within our village boundaries, and would remain small.

How can District 124 be more efficient?

I would love to give you an answer to this question, but I don't believe I can unless I have the all information to make a statement about that.

How will you hold the superintendent more accountable?

Being a former small business owner I had to make some hard decisions and hard discussions with my staff. One of my best qualities is my ability to weigh the options, and not be intimidated. I have no problem letting someone know I think they're not doing their best. I do have a big problem with anyone blaming someone else for things they have done, or not done. I believe there is a tactful way of doing that.

How can District 124 cooperate better with private schools in the village?

I do believe district 124 does need to cooperate and communicate with our private school better. How can that happen is we need a liaisons that understands both forms of education. Communication is key.
