Dance Studio Approved Despite Parking Issues

A new dance studio will soon be opening on 95th Street.

A storefront that was once a popular destination for Evergreen Park feet could be on track to becoming that once again after the Evergreen Park Village Board unanimously approved a business license for the Morgan Dance Academy at 3850 W. 95th St.

In the 1980s and ‘90s, the building was home to Red Wing Shoes, which outgrew the locations and moved about 14 years ago to its current home at 3347 W. 95th St.

Most recently, the space was a tax services office. It was also a delicatessen under the late Helen Romieniec.

The new academy will offer dance instruction for children of all ages, preschool through high school, leading several trustees to express reservations about parking for parents of children enrolled in classes.

The building has a two-car garage in the back and a rear driveway that could hold up to eight cars. The parking lots immediately east and west of the building are not available for dance academy patrons.

The owners of the new venture, Shannon Edwards and Linda Kay, addressed the issue by saying that most parents would not park, but merely drop off their children. Some trustees expressed skepticism, saying that parents of young children would likely want to park and wait inside during dance class.

Since parking was a concern of the trustees, it will be monitored.
