Woman Stopped on Western Avenue With 31 Bags of Pot

A woman was stopped for not wearing a seat belt in Evergreen Park. Police found a whole lot more.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, at 12:36 p.m. Evergreen Park police officers made a standard traffic stop. 

Ashley Williams, 23, of Blue Island, was stopped at 94th Street and Western Avenue for not wearing a seat belt and having expired registration, police said. 

Inside her car police found a digital scale and packaging material, according to the report. Then, hidden inside the engine compartment officers discoverd 31 small baggies filled with marijuana as well as another two large bags filled with loose marijuana, police said.

The total weight of the drugs was 42 grams, police said.

In the initial traffic stop Williams gave officers a fake name and date of birth because she was driving on a suspended license, police said.

Williams was charged with felony possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstruction of identification. She was also cited for not wearing a seat belt, expired registration, improper display of registration and driving without insurance.
