Traffic Stop Drug Bust

When noticed a driver had no front registration plate or seat belt, they stopped the car and ended up recovering over 200 grams of marijuana, police said.

According to reports, Kevin E. Dean, 29, of Evergreen Park was charged with felony unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver. Police said Dean had 283.3 grams of marijuana and an additional 87.2 grams.

According to police, tactical officers saw a 2007 Hyundai traveling north on Kedzie Avenue in the 8700 block with no front registration plate and the driver wore no seat belt. Police saw Dean reach under his seat as they were approaching the car, according to reports.

While speaking with him, police smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from his car, police said, although after a pat-down, no contraband was found, according to reports. Police said Dean admitted that he had some marijuana in the car. Officers recovered a plastic bag containing marijuana from the floorboard of the car, police said, weighing 87.2 grams. Reports said Dean later gave consent to search his apartment, in the 9200 block of Kedzie Avenue, where police recovered the other 283.3 grams of marijuana. According to police, Dean also gave a statement that he was en route to sell the 87.2 grams of marijuana in his car. The female passenger was not charged. Dean was also charged with no front registration plate, failure to wear a seat belt, and driving with no insurance.

MONDAY, JAN. 16

Carson’s Thievery

Demaral J. Clayton, 51, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft. Police said Clayton took one item valued at $29.62 from Carson Pirie Scott, 9700 S. Western Ave. According to reports, Clayton had a previous conviction for retail theft, which made this offense a felony. Police said store security saw Clayton take a wallet from display at about 3:46 p.m. and walk out of the store. He was stopped and brought back, where security recovered the wallet, police said.

THURSDAY, JAN. 12

Disturbance at Evergreen Park Community High School

Evergreen Park Police said a man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. According to reports, at about 11:40 a.m., Darnell M. Fishback, 18, of Chicago, was charged with disorderly conduct. Police said he provoked a “breach of the peace by yelling screaming profanities and arguing with the dean of students,” while at Evergreen Park Community High School, 9901 S. Kedzie Ave. According to reports, Fishback began causing a disturbance at the main entrance. Police said he was trying to get in to talk to a student, and when the dean wouldn’t let him, he went off.

THURSDAY, JAN. 12

Walmart Theft with a Little Pot on the Side

Walmart store security saw two people taking clothing items and stuffing them in bags, police said. According to reports, at about 7:34 p.m., Martiesa S. Jones, 18,  and Daniel J. Davis, 20,  both of Chicago, were charged with retail theft. Police said Jones took six items totaling $49.68 and Davis took eight items valued at $45.57. Davis was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said. According to reports, Davis possessed .6 grams of marijuana.

According to police, store security saw the two selecting clothing items and concealing them in a blue plastic bag from Rainbow clothing store. Reports said that Jones was holding the bag and Davis concealed some merchandise inside his coat pocket. The two then made a purchase at the register but didn’t attempt to pay for the items that were concealed in the bag or the coat pocket, police said. Security caught the two upon exiting, according to reports. Police said during an inventory search of Davis, the officer saw a small clear bag with the green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana in the amount of six grams.
