Two Thieves Steal Eyewear from Pearle Vision

Police said two men stole from the store in separate incidents, with one trying to flee on foot and the other found to have a crack pipe.

Two incidents in July involved men stealing eyewear and subsequently being caught by Evergreen Park police.

THURSDAY, JULY 21

Man Steals Expensive Sunglasses, Leads Police on Foot Chase

Police said Walter Brown, 61, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft for stealing three pairs of Coach and one pair of Burberry sunglasses from Pearle Vision, 3451 W. 95th St., then attempting to flee the scene.

According to police reports, a call came in around 11:27 a.m. reporting a retail theft and saying that Brown was leaving the store on foot. Police said there was a short foot chase before they caught Brown. Police said they charged him with resisting arrest, because they had to chase him down and he refused to obey commands while pulling away from a restraining officer. The sunglasses totaled $1,019.85, the report said.

Stolen Frames Lead Police to Crack Pipe

Police said Richmond Hicks, 54, of Broadview, was charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after stealing seven pairs of eyeglass frames valued at less than $300 and having a crack pipe in his car. According to police reports, at about 1:21 p.m. a Pearle Vision store clerk called police and reported a suspicious person in the store. Police pulled over Hicks’ car after employees identified the 2002 Saturn he drove away. Police said they found the eyeglass frames and a crack pipe in Hicks’ car.
