South Suburban DUI Arrests, June 2

May 26: Damon Dehaan, 37, of the 17300 block of South 69th Avenue, Tinley Park, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, driving without insurance and improper lane use, according to a police report. A car was stopped for improper lane use. Police allegedly found Dehaan under the influence and in possession of cocaine. A passenger, Dana Jenner, 34, of the 400 block of Boeing Drive, New Lenox, was charged with obstructing police. Dehaan was taken to Will County jail. Jenner posted bond and was released.

May 21: Tarina Richards, 46, of the 1200 block of Buffalo Street, Joliet, was charged with driving under the influence, illegally transporting alcohol and speeding, according to a report. She was stopped at about 11:56 p.m. near the intersection of Calistoga Drive and Laraway Road for speeding. Richards posted bond and was released.

May 20: Alex Hopkins, 24, of the 16800 block of Rainbow Circle, Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without valid registration and speeding, according to a report. Hopkins was stopped at about 1:24 a.m. near the intersection of Route 30 and Washington Street after police noticed a car without registration speeding. Hopkins posted bond and was released.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS

May 5: Rafael Rodriguez, 32, of the 100 block of Interocean Avenue, South Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08, failing to yield at an intersection, driving without proof of insurance and driving without a valid license, according to a report.

Rodriguez was stopped at about 3:41 a.m. near the intersection of 22nd Street and East End Avenue after police reported seeing him speeding through an intersection. He was unable to give the officer proof of insurance or a valid driver’s license, and police could smell a strong odor of alcohol, the report stated. 

Rodriguez reportedly told police he drank six beers that night. He was arrested after performing field sobriety tests, and he also took a breath test while in police custody, the report stated. 

Rodriguez is due on June 3 in Markham court.

May 4: 
April K. Munoz, 19, of the 300 block of East 25th Street, Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance, disobeying a stop sign and improper lane use, according to a report. 

Munoz was stopped at about 1:29 a.m. near the intersection of Chicago Road and Main Street after her car was seen drifting over the center road lines, according to the report. An officer reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. She was arrested after performing field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test while in custody. 

Munoz is due on June 14 in Markham court.

May 4: Armando Ortiz, 31, of the 1300 block of Shields Avenue, Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08, disobeying a stop sign, driving without a valid license, driving without insurance and illegally transporting alcohol, according to a report. 

Police stopped an SUV at about 1:36 a.m. near the intersection of 16th Street and East End Avenue after an officer noticed its hazard lights weren't on and that rolled through a stop sign, according to the report. When asked about the hazard lights, the driver said he was using his turn signals. Police reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath during the stop. 

Ortiz, who failed to produce a driver’s license or proof of insurance, was arrested, according to a report. He later took a breath test while in police custody.
