Several Arrests at Evergreen Park Walmart

Police say they caught several people stealing from Walmart last month.

Evergreen Park police made several arrests at Walmart last month.

Three Chicago residents were charged with retail theft, accused of stealing from Walmart on March 30.

Police said Brandon K. Berry, 28, took two items valued at $36.88, Shamaria S. Perkins, 25, took two items totaling $41.78, and Dominique Atkins, 26, took two items valued at $12.88. According to police reports, a Walmart security officer saw Atkins take items, remove them from packaging, put them in a purse, then give the purse to Berry, who also put items in the purse. Perkins put store merchandise in his jacket pocket, police said. According to reports, the three were caught upon leaving the store.

On March 28, police said Warren H. Todd, 64, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful use of a credit card for an offense that happened on March 21. According to reports, at about 1:42 p.m., Barrington Police Department asked the Evergreen Park Police Department for a surveillance video from Walmart because they were working on a report of a credit card offense and tracked a purchase made at the Evergreen Park store. Police said Walmart contacted the detective at 4:42 p.m., saying that the suspect, Todd, returned to the store. Police and Walmart loss prevention agents confirmed that Todd was the same man who used a stolen credit card in a Barrington Walmart, according to reports. Evergreen Park police said they ultimately charged Todd woth unlawful use of a credit card for attempting to buy $528.77 worth of items from Walmart. According to reports, Todd had eight other credit cards in his possession that belonged to other people, but he wouldn't say where he got the cards. Police said they arrested and charged Todd at 4:35 p.m. on March 28.

According to police reports, Dennis L. Weekly, 44, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft and felony possession of a controlled substance on March 26. Police said Weekly was seen standing at the jewelry counter in Walmart at about 8:29 p.m. As the sales clerk was distracted by other customers, Weekly took a 5/8 carat diamond ring valued at $698 from inside the display case, and put it in his pocket, police said, then went to the men's bathroom. According to police reports, when Weekly left the bathroom, he left the store and was detained by store security. Police said when they took him into custody, he had a 1.7-gram bag of a white powdery substance that later tested to be heroin, and the ring was in his shirt pocket. Police said the incident was caught on camera.

Matteson resident Tammy R. Griffin, 45, was charged with retail theft on March 24 for taking 17 items totaling $146.97 from Walmart, police said. According to reports, store security saw Griffin take several items from the women's section, put them in a bag and on her body, then attempt to leave the store. Police said they also discovered she had two additional items on her. She was caught upon exiting the store, police said.

Milton Merrill, 31, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft on March 22. He's accused of stealing electronics and baby items totaling $94.35 from Walmart at about 5:49 p.m., police said. Officers said they caught Merrill as he left the store.

On March 23, Kwamiqua S. McThay, 19, and LaDonna A. Coleman, 18, both of Chicago, were charged with retail theft, according to police, who said they stole from Walmart, concealing items in their purses. According to reports, McThay took assorted women's clothing and cosmetics totaling $50.42, while Coleman took women's and men's clothing and cosmetics valued at $52.43. Store security followed the women until they left, then took them into custody, police said.

According to police reports, Darlene Davis, 45, was charged with felony retail theft on March 21. Police said she stole two items from Walmart valuing $69.92. Police said at about 6:57 p.m., they saw Davis removing the two electronics items out of their original packaging and putting in a bag she had with her, then walking out of the store. Police caught Davis as she left the store, reports said.
