Resident Dies in Construction Incident

An Evergreen Park resident was killed by a falling piece of debris near the intersection of 130th Street and Torrence Avenue in the Hegewisch neighborhood.

Chicago Police and other officials are investigating the death of a man who was killed by a falling piece of debris, Sun-Times Media reports.

On Monday afternoon, James Quigley, 37, of Evergreen Park was hit by a falling object-- possibly a large piece of iron-- in the 13100 block of South Torrence Avenue in the Hegewisch neighborhood. According to the report, he "was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island where he was pronounced dead at 5:21 p.m."

ABC 7 Chicago reports that Quigley was part of a construction crew working on a road and rail project.

Along with the police, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and area South detectives are investigating the incident.
