Police Search Forest Preserves for Missing Crestwood Man

No new clues in search for James Sylvester, 21, who sent text messages on Thursday telling friends he was "sorry." Police fear that Sylvester, who was distraught over the recent breakup of a relationship, may try to harm himself.

No new clues turned up Saturday in the search for a 21-year-old Crestwood man as police conducted an aerial search of nearby forest preserves.

James Sylvester IV, of the 5200 block of 136th Court in Crestwood, was last heard from on Thursday morning when he texted friends, “tell everyone I’m sorry,” after disappearing the day before.

Crestwood Police said that Sylvester’s cell phone was turned off and that there has been no activity on his credit cards.

Det. Chris Soderlund said that Sylvester left information on his computer indicated that he might harm himself, who was reportedly distraught after a recent relationship breakup. .

On Saturday, police searched forest preserve land near 135th Street and Harlem Avenue searching for Sylvester, ABC-7 News reported.

Police are focused their search Saturday on the forest preserves near Crestwood, Palos Heights and Orland Park.

Soderland told the Chicago Tribune that Sylvester is not on any medications and hasn’t missing a day of work or school, making his disappearance even more concerning to his family.

Sylvester is due to graduate from college in June with a degree in computer networking.

Friends posted messages to Oak Lawn Patch's Facebook page on Saturday offering prayers and support to Sylvester's family.

"[This] is a close family friend's godson. The family is besides themselves praying he just comes home," a reader said.

The missing man’s family also released a photo of a car similar to the beige-gold 2002 Honda Civic that Sylvester is said to be driving, with Illinois license plate N253967. The plates are Happy Hyundai plate frames.

Sylvester is described as white, 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a reddish-brown beard, police said. He was last seen wearing a brown Carhartt jacket and black gym shoes.
