Police Roll Out New Emergency Alert System

Evergreen Park Police, along with a few neighboring villages, now allow residents to be alerted in the event that an emergency strikes.

This month, police made it easier for residents to find out about emergencies and other relevant community news.

Now serving the villages of Oak Lawn, Bridgeview and Burbank, the Oak Lawn Emergency Communications Emergency Notifications System

Residents may sign up for the service online and choose to receive the time-sensitive messages however they'd like: home phone, cell phone, business phone, email, text messages, hearing impaired-receiving devices, and more.

Powered by Everbridge, the online system allows residents to create a profile first, then specify where and how they'd receive the messages.

"Even if you're out on vacation, they'll notify you," said Deputy Chief of Dennis E. O'Dowd. An added advantage, he said, is for people with elderly relatives in any of these towns, but do not actually live in the towns, themselves. With the new emergency alert system, they can be notified of any emergency, as well.

"We will eventually set up a kiosk at Village Hall and run a full-fledged campaign," to notify residents of the new service, said O'Dowd.
