Evergreen Park Woman Charged with Felony Retail Theft

Police said Cynthia Engel, 46, of Evergreen Park, was charged with felony retail theft. According to reports, at 2:57 p.m., officers responded to a call from CVS, 3201 W. 95th St., claiming Engel attempted to return an object she took off the shelf. Police said store security told them Engel entered the store carrying a plastic bag and put a 3M abdominal support valued at $31.49 in the bag. After the salesperson became suspicious, they told management, who observed the video surveillance and saw Engel remove the item from shelf and make a return, police said.

Man Admits to Violating Protection Order

Zachariah Smith, 24, of Evergreen Park, was charged with violation of an order of protection, police said. According to reports, at 11:20 a.m., a complainant, who said she had an order of protection against Smith, told police she saw Smith in the area of 88th Street and Fairfield Avenue, near her home. Police said they arrested Smith in the 2600 block of 90th street, and he said that he had been in front of the home.

Unladylike Behavior

Police said Ronald Wilson, 21, of Chicago was charged with felony burglary to a motor vehicle at about 9:08 a.m. According to police reports, a witness walked out of a building in the 3000 block of West 95th Street and said she saw a female with red hair sitting on a Chevrolet Trailblazer. After confronting the woman, the witness said, she got on a bike and rode away. Minutes later the cops said they saw the woman and stopped her near Kedzie Avenue. According to reports, the woman was actually a man in a wig, and identified himself as Ronald Wilson. According to police, Wilson said he took a bag from the car that he was sitting on because he needed change to get something to eat.

Sam’s Club Employee Arrested

According to police, Kevin Gray, 29, of Dolton, was charged with felony theft. Sam’s Club store security, 9400 S. Western Ave., discovered that Gray would enter codes for the sale of items and say that they were returned, police said. Gray would then place the refunded money onto his Walmart payroll card, police said. According to reports, Gray had done this 11 times, since May of 2011 because “he said that he wasn’t getting paid enough.” Police said Gray took $4,374.01.
