Police Blotter: Retail Theft, Disorderly Conduct, Possession and Trespassing

Evergreen Park police reports, Nov. 26-Dec. 2

THURSDAY, DEC. 2

Walmart Theft Reported

Travis T. Allen, 24, of  Chicago was charged with retail theft after police said he attempted to steal seven DVDs and a box of Trojan condoms, with a value totaling $126.63, around 1 p.m. at Walmart, 2500 W. 95th St. Police said store security saw him in the electronics section selecting the items. On his way to the men's clothing and home and living departments, he opened the DVDs and the condoms, placed the items inside his left coat pocket and threw away the empty boxes, according to reports. He was taken into custody as he was leaving the store, officers said.

Possession of Marijuana Charged

Je S. Javelona, 20, of Chicago Ridge, was charged with possession of marijuana, an illegal license plate cover, and not having insurance. At around 10:29 p.m. on the 3900 block of 95th Street, police said they pulled the car over for a routine traffic stop and smelled the strong odor of marijuana as they approached it. When the officers asked Javelona if he had any marijuana, police said he handed over a one-gram plastic baggie of marijuana.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 1

Repeat Trespasser Reported

Police said a Chicago man was charged with criminal trespass to property and resisting arrest around 12:18 p.m. at , 9536 S. Millard Ave. According to police reports, the man was looking for a priest and when an employee told him he wasn't there, Houston got agitated and began swearing. After police told him to leave several times, James Houston, 53, refused and then tried to get away as the officer was arresting him, according to reports.

Officers said Houston had previously been at Most Holy Redeemer Parish, 9525 S. Lawndale Ave., around 9 a.m. He reportedly was asked to leave by workers, and left. Police said Houston had been seen stealing from the poor boxes at another church.

SUNDAY, NOV. 28

Disorderly Conduct Alleged

DeAndre J. Harris, 19, of Des Moines, Iowa, was charged with disorderly conduct, police said. He was yelling profanities that caused a disturbance and alarmed customers at the 87th Street and Kedzie Avenue Walgreens, according to reports. Police said a security officer was speaking with another customer, Harris' family member, who was telling him about a possible retail theft in progress, when Harris started yelling at the officer, asking what he was doing and saying no one stole chips from the store. The security officer said he was an off-duty Chicago police officer and asked Harris to quiet down, according to reports. After Harris continued to yell, police said the officer arrested Harris around 7:15 p.m.

FRIDAY, NOV. 26

More Walmart Thefts

Two Chicago women were arrested and charged with retail theft at the 95th Street Walmart. Security told police they saw Jaslyn J. Brinson, 22, and Shontanae L. Brinson, 19, on security cameras taking miscellaneous items from the women's clothing and cosmetics sections around 7:15 p.m. According to police reports, Jaslyn concealed items worth $39.29 and Shontanae took items valued at $105.50. Security stopped the women as they were exiting the store, police said.
